Family Camp

After four years, the family camp returned on the 8th to 10th June 2023! It seemed like a long time since we ran the last one all the way back in 2019.

After the closure of Scout Adventures Downe we had to find a new venue and we ended up just around the corner at Eleven Acres Campsite. It is amazing to think that after a four year break due to the pandemic we ended up back at the campsite where we ran our first ever family camp back in 2008!

The camp build started on Thursday before over one hundred campers, which is only about half our group plus their families, descended on the site Friday evening and then the fun commenced.

For a large number of the families in Squirrels, Beavers & Cubs it was their first family camp while we welcomed back some old friends whose children were in the group four years ago.

I think we can say the event was a massive success, from the fun and silly activities we ran during the day to campfire songs and games in the evening everyone enjoyed themselves and we cannot wait until next year when we can welcome you all back again. First of all, the leaders need a break!

We have to acknowledge the amazing people behind the scenes including the brilliant cooking crew who served up over 400 hot meals over the weekend along with all the leaders that hauled the kit from our hut and set up all the tents on Thursday and Friday.

We also would like to thank all the parents that helped us get everything down and packed by mid morning on Sunday meaning we were all home and packed away by early afternoon.

Lastly we would like to thank everyone that attended for your sense of fun and adventure, without you all family camp would not be the event that it is today.
